Traditional Lighting Vs LED Lighting
Lighting technology advances slowly, but the discovery and constant development of LED technology is making a big change in our society and the possibilities offered by traditional lighting are nothing compared to what LED Lighting is assuming, both in the size of the luminaires as well as the efficiency and energy savings it provides us and the design possibilities using colors and different white temperatures, both in homes and in businesses, the difference is huge between one and the other.
The differences between traditional lighting and LED lighting are many, and the pros and cons of one and the other too, below I have prepared an infographic to quickly see what are the main differences between one type of lighting and another.
Consumption
The first and abysmal difference between one type of lighting or another is the consumption, the LED lights consume at least 50% less than a traditional light, reaching in some models up to 90% of the energy savings that we would consume if our electrical installation were traditional When we talk about a 6W LED bulb, we are talking about the equivalent of a traditional bulb would be approximately 60W, and this average of 10 times more is repeated in the different powers of an LED bulb, so with a light Current LED of 200W of power we would be emulating a traditional one of a power no less than of almost 2000W, with the consumption that that power would represent.
Durability
The second major difference between traditional lighting and the existing LED Lighting is the duration of one and the other.
The traditional bulb that can last longer does not exceed 1000 hours and a fluorescent lamp 9000, while the minimum duration of an LED light goes from 20,000 to 60,000 hours , so we are multiplying the duration by more than 20 in a traditional and for 5 in a fluorescent, and that added to the changes of bulbs, repairs, and maintenance, we are talking about a much higher cost than we would have with the purchase of a single long-lasting LED bulb that its maintenance and repair costs go to Be practically zero.
Color options
I mention them, but in this section we have nothing to compare, or everything, because traditional lighting has not developed in a direction that we could have some color option in any of the light bulb models, only the Neon lights (and I remember some light bulbs that were tinted with soft pastel shades in pink, green and blue I think ..), so that LED lighting breaks all our schemes until that moment providing us with a whole world of possibilities, first by having almost all the LED luminaries one or more color temperatures that allow us to alter the tone of light it emits. Temperatures are defined as Warm Light or warm white, which emits a warm light tone and gives that feeling of warmth to the elements that illuminate, then there is neutral white, which imitates very well the tone of sunlight, without color alterations and that allows to maintain all the purity without deforming the original colors of the elements that it illuminates, and finally the so-called Cold Light that allows to illuminate totally and to give sensation of more amplitude in the spaces that it illuminates.
In addition to the color temperatures, the LED technology has been improving and we can currently choose between a series of primary colors such as red, green, yellow or blue using the so-called decorative LED strips and in the latest products there are already the so-called RGB colors, where you can get more than 640,000 colors regulated by a remote control.
Light Intensity
A traditional bulb does not allow you to regulate the intensity of light that you want to use at different times of the day in the same space, in the past, you had a power bulb x that you could turn on or off, but not decrease or increase the intensity of light is emitted.
It is another of the great differences between traditional lighting and LED, some models of LED bulbs have the ability to be regulated , so that the same bulb can provide us with different intensities of light according to our need (for example at night we want Do not turn off the light in the room at all, but reduce its intensity so that it bothers you less, since we are not going to perform any activity where we need a lot of light intensity such as reading a novel, but the best thing is that if we you want to read it we return to regulate the intensity and voila).
These types of bulbs are called dimmable LED bulbs or you can also identify them by “R7S” if you want to see any you can check several models in our online store.
Directional light
Move the light to where you want! , so said as is, it will seem silly because you may already be accustomed to the LED directional panels, but the reality is that before the discovery of LED lights this was not possible but it was through complicated light installations.
In the past, you had light bulbs and tubes in some parts of the house, but they could not move or turn to any direction other than the straight fall ... J, so if you wanted some special point to have more lighting than another You simply had to install a light just above what you would like to highlight, period, with no more options, and the finish was not very good. How much limitation was it?
Well, LED lighting has improved all our lives!
In addition to the main differences I have mentioned, there are also others such as:
- The virtually total elimination of maintenance and repairs in our luminaires, very high costs in traditional lighting and virtually non-existent in LED lighting.
- The disappearance of polluting elements that contain traditional light bulbs such as Mercury and that no longer carry LED lights.
- Bulb sizes much smaller.
- With much more equivalent power, a 6W LED bulb is equivalent to a traditional 60W bulb.
For all this, I think it is clear that the differences between traditional lighting and LED lighting are many and very important, and none benefits from traditional lighting.
